Since 2005, MEGA MOBILE has helped customers stay connected through changing technologies, evolving devices, and new opportunities within the mobile industry.
What began as a small Boston retailer specializing in unlocked phones and accessories has evolved into a company involved in repair services, certified pre-owned devices, product sourcing, distribution, consumer brands, and strategic partnerships.
Over the past two decades, MEGA MOBILE has participated in many chapters of the mobile technology industry—from the era of Nokia, BlackBerry, and Sidekick devices to today’s smartphones, premium accessories, and connected technology products.
Scroll through the story below to see how the journey evolved.
MEGA MOBILE was founded in Boston during a period when most mobile phones were locked to wireless carriers and many innovative products were difficult to find through traditional retail channels.
The company was created to give customers access to unlocked devices, premium accessories, and emerging mobile technology from around the world.
MEGA MOBILE opened its first location at 339 Washington Street in Downtown Boston, serving customers seeking products and expertise beyond what traditional mobile retailers offered. This location became the foundation for what would eventually grow into a broader mobile technology business.
As demand for Sidekick repairs increased, a new challenge emerged. Replacement LCD screens for the Sidekick 2 were not available anywhere. To solve the problem, MEGA MOBILE worked with a manufacturing partner in Taiwan and secured approval from Sharp to develop replacement LCD screens. MEGA MOBILE became the exclusive distributor of replacement Sidekick 2 LCD screens, supplying repair businesses during a period when reliable sourcing options were extremely limited. This experience helped expand the company’s capabilities in sourcing, manufacturing partnerships, logistics, and distribution.
MEGA MOBILE joins the CPR Cell Phone Repair network, combining its local roots and experience with the resources of a national repair brand.
Today, CPR Boston Back Bay and CPR Boston Downtown Crossing continue the MEGA MOBILE story, helping customers repair, protect, replace, and stay connected.

MEGA MOBILE began in Boston in 2005 with a new retail concept dedicated exclusively to mobile phones and mobile phone products.
At a time when most phones were sold through wireless carriers, MEGA MOBILE gave customers access to unlocked phones, premium accessories, and innovative products sourced directly from Europe that were unavailable through traditional U.S. retail channels.
The company’s first location opened at 339 Washington Street in Downtown Boston, introducing a different way to shop for mobile technology and laying the foundation for what would become more than two decades of growth and evolution within the mobile technology industry.
MEGA MOBILE opened its first location at 339 Washington Street in Downtown Boston, serving customers seeking products and expertise beyond what traditional mobile retailers offered.
This location became the foundation for what would eventually grow into a broader mobile technology business.
During the early days of mobile phones, MEGA MOBILE incorporated repairs into the business, servicing Nokia, BlackBerry, Motorola, and other handsets. While repairs began as a supporting service, one device would help establish MEGA MOBILE’s reputation as a repair destination: the T-Mobile Sidekick.
The Sidekick became a cultural phenomenon, and word quickly spread among its young and highly connected users that MEGA MOBILE could repair broken swivels, screens, trackballs and other common failures. It was not unusual to see lines of customers waiting for their Sidekicks to be repaired, helping establish repairs as an important part of the business.
As BlackBerry adoption accelerated, MEGA MOBILE sourced refurbished BlackBerry devices and adapted them for the U.S. market through customized packaging, accessories, inserts, and retail presentation.
These BlackBerry kits were distributed to resellers, including businesses in New York, helping provide customers with affordable alternatives during a period of rapid smartphone adoption.
The success of these BlackBerry expanded the company’s experience in sourcing, packaging, logistics, and distribution while strengthening relationships with suppliers and partners around the world.
When the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 launched, international demand quickly exceeded supply in many regions.
MEGA MOBILE participated in wholesale distribution programs supplying devices to partners in Dubai, helping address shortages during the early years of smartphone adoption and further expanding the company’s experience in international distribution.
As the smartphone era accelerated, MEGA MOBILE expanded into a larger Downtown Boston location with a storefront window.
The company built its reputation around four core categories—Phones, Accessories, Repairs, and Unlocking—while using creative displays and cutting-edge products to attract customers. The reputation continued to grow as more consumers turned to smartphones and the products that surrounded them.
Newbury Street was a natural fit for MEGA MOBILE’s vision of combining technology and fashion as a lifestyle.
The location focused on products that were functional, stylish, and fun, introducing customers to premium accessories, audio products, and lifestyle technology in one of Boston’s most recognized shopping districts.
As the business matured, MEGA MOBILE began identifying opportunities to improve products rather than simply sell them.
During the early selfie-stick era, many products available in the market were poorly made and limited to specific devices.
MEGA MOBILE developed CellfiePro, a more versatile solution designed to work with multiple smartphones, tablets, action cameras, and other devices, helping customers capture photos and experiences without device limitations.
As smartphones became larger, one-handed use became more difficult.
MEGA MOBILE developed Avant Guard with 6Sense Technology, a tempered glass screen protector that improved usability by transferring touch controls to more accessible locations. The product addressed a real challenge facing smartphone users during the transition to larger screen devices.
In 2016, Avant Guard received award recognition from iPhone Life Magazine during CES, one of the technology industry’s most influential events.
The recognition highlighted MEGA MOBILE’s ability to identify problems and develop innovative solutions that improved the user experience.
In 2018, The New York Times featured MEGA MOBILE Boston among trusted independent repair providers in the United States.
The recognition reflected years of experience serving customers through multiple generations of mobile phones, repairs, and technology products.
In 2018, MEGA MOBILE joined the CPR Cell Phone Repair network, combining years of independent experience with the resources of a nationally recognized network.
The partnership enhanced the company’s repair capabilities, processes, training, and industry relationships while increasing the visibility of the brand through CPR’s nationwide network.
Today, that same journey continues through CPR Boston, premium technology brands, and new opportunities that help people repair, protect, replace, and get more from the technology they depend on every day.
